This is going to be a random question since I only have a cruiser bike, but how comfortable is this bike for casual rides? I enjoy riding my cruiser but would also like to maybe start getting into trail riding and simply for more exercise.
This bike is really comfortable, much more comfortable than my old bike, even on pavement since it soaks up potholes and bumps etc BUT this type of bike have a fairly aggressive riding position with a fairly long reach so your back, especially lower back will get fatigued fairly quickly if you are not in okay shape and have a fair amount of back muscles to stabilize your body, so how far you can ride it depends on your shape. Im not in that good shape now but i can easily ride +20km in the woods, uphill, downhill, over rough terrain etc so yeah, i could probably ride it +50km in a more upright position but i prefer shorter but faster rides over longer but slower rides so 20-30km is long enough for me. If your goal is to have fun and getting in shape is a byproduct of the fun then this bike is for you, if your goal is to get in shape and fun is the byproduct then i would probably choose something else.
The lockout is good so it comes fairly close to a hard tail when fully locked so no problem there. But pavement should really only be used as transport stages to your local trail or bike park with this kind of bike.
If you want to run on fairly even trails, gravel roads, fire roads or something thats not that rough, an XC bike would probably fit you better, especially when you want to use it for exercise and casual rides. Something like the Canyon Lux (new model launching soon) or Scott Spark etc etc, XC bikes tend to not have such an aggressive riding position (if you choose the right frame size) as the allmnt or enduro bikes so they are more comfortable and are lighter and more nimble.
But its hard to recommend a bike for you since it totally depends on riding style, terrain, etc etc etc etc, would be best if you could borrow a bike for a day or so and try it out and see if you like it.
Sorry, this reply was a whole lot of nonsense really, its impossible to recommend i bike for someone else
