These crazy high speeds are not realistic. What's important is consistency.

I find consistency and peak speeds to both be important. High speeds are good to know how things might be handled during busy times and crowded areas. If you consistently get slow speeds, it's only a sign of things could get worse at any time.

What are considered low speeds? Both AT&T and Verizon have advertised speeds of 5-12Mbps down.

If someone is getting a consistent 5Mbps down in a pretty congested area is that low?

I'd consider 5 down to be slow, especially given today's LTE technologies and capabilities that are being deployed.

I'd tend to agree with you on this, but for some (Sprint users), 5mbps is a huge improvement :)

Higher peak speeds directly correlate to amount of capacity that the carrier has deployed in a given area.

My LTE download speed at home in south Jax has more than doubled over the past day or so. Used to never exceed 40 down, only recently being between 40 & 50 down. Second one was done on a T-Mobile server (mainly for a ping advantage).

Here is mine, I'm in Solihull, UK even though it says I'm in London but I have location turned off on Ookla.

Samsung Galaxy S6 on Vodafone UK (London Victoria area)

Using 4G+ (LTE-Advanced) getting a download of 180Mbps

Man, Sprint still isn't good compared to some of your speed tests  Still, it's dramatic improvement even compared to a couple of months ago. I would actually be okay with consistent results like the attached.

There is no difference between 40mbs and 120 mbs as for real world speed. We have reached the law of diminishing returns.

A consistent 15mbs is even fine for everything now a days.

Might be useful for 4K streaming in a few years. Whether it'll even be worthwhile on a small screen is a different question.

I'd love to hear how you came to that conclusion.

While you may not think anything over 15Mbps is useful, it is for many of us. Especially those who tether to a computer, download large apps, etc.

15mbs is not enough to tether or download apps?
