Backing up files (tell us more)
Additional storage space (tell us more)
Organizing media files (tell us more)
As a shared storage drive (tell us more)
Locking up important files (tell us more)
Other (please explain)
I don't have an external drive

just for some "casual" survey interest. maybe worth to get new ideas.

I have 3 external hard drives
Seagate GoFlex ultra portable HD for TM backup
Hitachi HD for pictures, video, and apps storage
Seagate Satellite Wireless HD for media streaming with iTunes

I use USB drives for backups via Time Machine and CCC. I use a Mac Mini server with external drives for media storage, backups, and archiving files. All machines are backed up online to CrashPlan. The server also has shared files.

I am anal about backup. I don't have any data that doesn't have at least 2 different backups.

Care to explain exactly how you use your satellite with iTunes?

I am also a backup freek. I have avoided buying too large capacity hard drive as there will be temptation to store everything on it and risking disaster if it fails. I have several maximum 1TB that I apportion my storage and backup one onto the other.
I have particularly fallen in love with the WD My passport ultra versions.

I keep all my videos (movies, TV shows, anime), music, and backups on a NAS. Having them on the NAS allows my little Raspberry Pi to easily access them so that I can watch them on my TV.

I like storing everything on the NAS to keep my startup volume as clean as possible.

One for time machine backup, and I replace that one fairly regularly, with the old ones going into a drawer or very occasionally offsite. I usually do a full backup with e.g. SuperDuper before I retire the drive. Drives are cheap. The other outboard drive I use regularly hosts a linux VM for when I'm traveling with the MBP and need to get some development work done.

I love lacie too.
I have little big disk as time machine for my imac.
And a lacie NAS for sharing data amongst my machines as opposed to using USB thumb drives

I like them as well. Love the quality and that they fit nicely in with the mac. On the other hand, I am starting to look at a NAS. Since a NAS gives you a better overview of the drive health etc.

Pictures pictures please.

If you can.....we would love to see the hard drive setups you have.

Care to explain exactly how you use your satellite with iTunes?

To make more spaces on 256GB SSD on my 2012 rMBP so I had to move large iTunes library/folders to Satellite Wireless HD so I can watch movies wirelessly with Seagate app on my iPad Air.

Did you use the Seagate tool to load your itunes onto satellite?

Did that with mine though it didn't really look like it installed properly.

Now intending to erase and dedicate the satellite to my Gopro projects

I use a 1 TB WD My Passport as my backup drive, which I use with Time Machine. I've also got a 1 TB WD hard drive in a Sabrent USB 3 enclosure for storing videos, most of which are mirrored on my MBP, but some are videos that I didn't care enough about to leave on my MBP. In addition my family has a 4 TB My Cloud EX2 which acts a media server for the house.
