Due to past due balance, and other reasons, an upgrade is not available. Payment will make full retail pricing available for all handsets except iPhone. After payment, we can offer you an early iPhone upgrade with a new 2-yr commitment and an $18 upgrade fee at a participating iPhone sales location. Additional discounts for all other handsets may be available on 11/15/2011. Use *PAY to check your balance and pay your bill from your phone.

"Thank you for contacting AT$T. We would be happy to offer you two more years of dropped calls and crappy service for an $18.00 no reason at all charge."

I'll just keep my 3GS and wait for Verizon or someone else to carry the iPhone. I cannot stand AT$T anymore.

That's hardly fair. You signed up for a two-year commitment, and in reliance on that promise by you, AT&T paid Apple a significant portion of the cost of your iPhone so you could buy it at a lower price. Instead of recovering its investment over 24 months as you agreed, AT&T offered to write off 25% of their amortization so you could upgrade in just 18 months. You may be justified in complaining about the reliability of their network in your area, but you have no legitimate grounds to complain about not receiving a new subsidy from AT&T until you've fulfilled your obligations on the subsidy you've already received.

Bought my 3GS in Sept '09.

am i the only one getting the message that i'm eligible for a full upgrade in xx/xx/2010?

I dont know why other's get that "as a vauled customer we can offer you an upgrade, blah blah"

i think people should post their purchase date for whatever phone they currently have. i see people whom purchased their 3gs after me, Aug '09, and are eligible for the standard upgrade price of 199/299, while i qualify for only an early upgrade, 399/499...

now i wonder, because i took my 3gs off my account along with the data plan (went back to my samsung slider) a couple weeks ago to so i can sell it, did this affect my eligibility date...now i'm not a current iPhone user...?

i still have my 3gs, maybe put them back on the account...?

any insight is appreciate. :)
