"You may select and equipment at our full retail pricing. An upgrade may be available on 5/26/2011." I don't care because I'm using my mom's upgrade to get an iPhone 4.

"A full discount on a standard handset or iPhone upgrade is not available at this time but you may qualify on 10/07/10. We can offer you a iPhone upgrade at a higher price with a 2-year commitment and an $18 upgrade fee."

Still worried that it doesn't say fully subsidized, but the corporate At&t store said that they'll only look at the eligible upgrade date, so i'll be able to upgrade for $200

Okay, so we're in the same boat. Did you sell your iPhone by any chance?

Correct, but the data plan and Imei are still linked to my account (says ATT) .
I even put my sim in a friends 3GS today, and got the same message when dialing

Well, one of 2 things is happening here:

1) I've been saying for a while that the AT&T systems are still "settling out". Not everyone's upgrade date changes are finalized. People need to chill and wait until the 14th to worry.

2) Despite the fact that your iPhone and IMEI are "linked" to you account, when AT&T scanned their network for iPhone accounts, you didn't have an iPhone on it. And unless they do another scan again while you have an iPhone on the account, your date won't change.

"Thank you for contacting AT$T. We would be happy to offer you two more years of dropped calls and crappy service for an $18.00 no reason at all charge."

I'll just keep my 3GS and wait for Verizon or someone else to carry the iPhone. I cannot stand AT$T anymore.

Well, I'd still be eligible for the 199/299 pricing either way then

Not if part 2 is correct. You'd have to convince a CSR to give you the upgrade somehow since the system isn't going to do it automatically.

Edit: Let me be clear...I'm not saying you shouldn't be, but due to you removing the iPhone, the system won't bump you. This is my guess.

Well the AT&T rep told me it's on my account, so it should be the same system. Who knows, this has been a disaster.

Exactly what happened to me a while back when I used my HTC TILT for a couple days in substitute of my iPhone, just to prove a point that AT&T somehow scanned the network and noticed I had a different phone other than my iPhone. The HTC TILT showed up in my account. Then when I put my SIM back into the iPhone, the picture in my account changed back to an iPhone.

The only time I have seen it not change, is when I have used a phone that AT&T never sold i.e. Sony k850i. Then the picture in my account was blank since they couldn't recognize that phone in their system.

I have 5 iPhones on my account and this message shows up for 3 of them:

It just reads what phone you have your sim card in. i dont think they "scan a network"

Agreed, but I think the "scanning" happened when they were bumping up upgrade dates. And they probably did it based on the IMEI currently active on the line.

Mine changed to this sometime last night:

Mine states, "As a valued customer, we can offer you an upgrade with a new 2-yr commitment and an $18 upgrade fee."

In other words, eligible for the $199/$299 pricing of the iPhone 4 with an additional $18 upgrade fee.

But I should be getting the upgrade fee waived because of my FAN account.

See I have a FAN account as well, but I receive the same message; paying an $18 fee. I thought that would be waived as well since I have a FAN account. Hmmmmm....
