Those battery are honestly are crap. An iPhones battery is around 1400mah and that battery pack is 2600mah minus 20-30% because of power conversion. You should get at least 1 full charge using a 2600mah battery pack. If you are happy with it use it but I am just stating facts.

Your right. I bought this before you posted the suggestions earlier in this thread (thanks for doing that). I think I might go with one of those. If anything, what I have now is better than nothing when the phone's power level gets close to 0. I think I want something better though. Probably good for at least 2 charges.

For 2 charges you will need at least 5200-5600mah of battery power.
Here are a few:

For the iPhone 5 a 4000 mAh external battery will give you about 2.5 charges.

4000/1440= 2.78

You'll only need 5600 or more for 2X if you buy cheap batteries that are already used or factory rejects, with reduced capacity. So you're sold more capacity to make up for that loss. Nothing really wrong with that, since they are cheap, but you pay for it in excess weight and volume.

The other thing to look for is the charge rate. You'll want 1amp rate for a phone and 2.1 A for an ipad. The mini is fine at at 1amp, since that is what the Apple charger provides.

Someone buying 10,000mAh battery would expect over 6 charges, but I doubt they rarely ever try to get that to validate the battery. My Mophie gives 2.5 charges.

Sounds like the one you purchased, 2600mAh, was a dud, or well used. I see the reviews are bad on Amazon and it's selling for $5. That tells me they are dumping the market.

There are millions of batteries exchanged out under OEM warranty (50-80% capacity left) and instead of properly environmentally disposing of them, they are resold to vendors that repackage them for dumping on eBay or Amazon.

Looks like I'm going to need more power than I have. I bought a JBL Micro Wireless speaker the other day. They list it as having about 5 hours of play time so I think that along with my phone will need a charge part of the way through the day when I'm using it. So one that shows that it's good for two iPhone charges should be good for that. I like the one with the power remaining meter. That way I don't have to guess how much reserve batter is left.

I'm looking for one of these that charges through 8pin Lightning cable instead of the standard Micro-USB. That way I can just use my lightning cable to charge, rather than having to carry around a micro-usb cable as well.

I found this one...

But the reviews say that they aren't built very well, so I'm a bit skeptical

I appreciate your help Zman, but this one still has the Micro-USB input. I'm looking for one with a Lightning 8-pin input. I listed one that has what I'm looking for, just the reviews are making me nervous

The only ones that work well are unfortunately in your case charge by micro usb. Sorry. You can try your luck and get that one but I don't recommend it. Micro usb cables are so cheap anyway.
Maybe this would work for you in your case if you get one with a micro usb charging port.

I've used the one that I originally posted about a few times. It works ok but doesn't change my phone all the way. I get about a 75% charge from close to 0. It is better than nothing when your battery is almost dead but of course... we always want more!

I'm going to be flying in a few weeks. I haven't researched this on Delta's site yet but I have a feeling that I won't be able to carry one of these batteries on the plane. Anyone have experience with this?

I brought 4 battery packs on board on united today in my suitcase that goes over the overhead bins. One was 20400, 10000, 9000 and 6000. No problems going past security. I also had one in my backpack that is 7000 that went under my seat. Trust me you will be fine. Make sure it is carried on. I think it is a fire hazard if batteries are not in the pressured cabin I read somewhere.

Comparing to other companies, that pretty expensive IMO.
Example:
RAVPower Element 10400mAh External Battery Pack Portable Charger Power Bank (Dual USB Outputs, Ultra Compact Design), for iPhone 5S, 5C, 5, 4S, 4, iPad Air, 4, 3, 2, Mini 2 (Apple adapters not included); Samsung Galaxy S4, S3, S2, Note 3, Note 2; HTC One, EVO, Thunderbolt, Incredible, Droid DNA, Motorola ATRIX, Droid, Moto X, Google Glass, Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7, Nexus 10, LG Optimus, PS Vita, GoPro and More

Well, it's time for me to upgrade. My Power Banks charger added 55% to my iPhone 5 while I was out today. This was one of the rare days when I wasn't in a location to charge my phone or had the time to sit there and wait. I'd like the confidence in knowing that my back-up will provide me with more than enough power to get me though a full day of use and then some. I think the RAVPower above will be able to handle that. Plus I like the LED status lights that show how the unit's battery is doing.

I echo the above sentiments on the Anker Astro line...good stuff, small package, good price.

Hello, I'm new here. I've been searching for a portable battery charger & I've read the inputs so far, I just have a question. Do you guys know anything about the Lepow Moonstone portable external charger? The one I'm interested in is 6000 mAh & it has very good reviews on Amazon (picture also included). It is different from most because instead of having a Li-on battery, it has a Li-polymer battery. It seems really good but I wanted to see what you guys said. If you say it's not any good, I was going to go with the Anker mini but I just had found this one & it seemed very appealing but I thought I'd ask. I need it by the 25th (of June) so I have to make my decision fairly quickly! I appreciate all input though so thank you ahead of time! :)

I made a last minute change and ordered this one instead. I'm using it for the first time now. Started when my iPhone 5 was at 50%. It's been 30 minutes and it's now up to 80% so it charges at 1% per minute when not being used. I was going to go with the 9000mAh version but it was bigger than I wanted to carry. 2-3 charges will keep me powered for a full day and then some.

I'm happy your happy with my recommendation:)

It took about 65 minutes to charge from 50-100%. Seems to have slowed down for the last 10%. It used roughly about 20% of the Astro's charge (2 lights). My other one would have lost about 75% of it's charge. I like having an indicator that shows how much power is left too. Thanks for the suggestion!
