Power Book G4 17" 1.67 Start Up Problem

I'm manually transferring from my hard drive to a Lacie 250 gb outboard and my PB17 locked up. A restart has lead me to the small file image (alternating "?" and the "Finder" faces) between on a grey screen. What do I do?😕
