Yup, that board's toast. :D

C2 was just about fried completely off. :p

Just make arrangements, and get it in, as they'll just swap out the board. :)

No, there's no water sensors, but there is residue on the board, mostly around the capacitor C2. That around the power connector is a clue though. Fortunately, the service techs probably won't have the time to make an issue of it, be in too much of a hurry to get it completed, and won't be able to tell the difference of it's origin anyway. :D

yah but once they send it to apple they will look at it and will charge me, i also hear theres an additional or something???

what could cause this? could it be the power cord wet or even just in a really humid enviorment

I was thinking you got the computer wet, given water's been mentioned, and it managed to make contact with the Power board. Was this the case? Something else?

BTW, water isn't necessary. PSU's can go out due to power fluctuations on the wall. Brown outs and surges can cause damage. Unfortunately, when this causes a failure, it can take other parts of the system out with it. Whether it's a tower system PSU or AC brick to a laptop, anything down line, is in danger. :(

yes water did spill but when i opened it up there was barely any water, a few drops that i got with my towel. and after i thought i had gotten it dry, it wouldnt charge, no sparks untill the next morning after i had left it open through the night

It doesn't take much though. :(

Send it in anyway. Apple will likely take care of it at no charge. Worse case, if they figure it out as user damage, the repair cost is likely not going to be that bad. Certainly not enough to justify replacing the system. ;)

hows this :(

kinda looks like its smoking... its not

That's normal; looks like resin from the solder.

And try to use please. ;)

There a moisture indicators in the machine and unless you live in sauna, there is no tricking them.

And the cost of repair for a water damaged machine is $1200 USD.

If it's flux, that was a very poor cleaning job. ;) :p C2 definitely blew though. The solid gray residue (electrolyte cloud) is rather visible. ;) Not to mention the damaged solder joints for it. :p

By chance would you have an image of them on the board? I've not seen any.

If the whole thing is toast, that would make sense. But that particular board shouldn't exceed ~$50USD at Apple's repair parts cost. It's simple as heck... :p Then add in labor, it still should be around ~$250USD max. (Figuring $50 part, and 2hrs labor @ $100/hr).

then if they end up telling me its 250, i can always send it to some other service place thats cheeper, or order the part and do it myself!

and i believe water damage just voids my warrenty

You might be better off this way. You can find the parts, and save yourself quite a bit on labor alone. Try macpalace.com. ;)

This is normal, and if they went through the hassle of installing a sensor, that would be it's purpose. A bit more $ to make the board, but it pays for itself (and much more) in reduced warranty work. And turn a loss into a profit from the repairs. :p

I just hadn't seen the sensors on the boards or any mention of them either. But given the prospect of eliminating warranty work, to be expected. Other manufacturers will likely follow suit if they haven't already.

yah i was almost convinced to do this myself, but i was hen convinced to have apple look at it so i know the connectors to the logic board arnt fried as well.

Just look at the plastic connector(s). If it's melted, it's likely bad. :p

so you think is screwed the connectors as well?
Probably not, but I can't be sure, as I'm unable to see. They're really simple though. Just a plastic block, with some crimp pins inserted. ;)

Do you have any Torx bits to remove the screws and look for yourself?
You'd need them anyway to do the repair, and worst case, post a pic of the other side of the board and connectors if you can't tell. ;)

no, im leaving for a week long tri...without my macbook:(

but the day i get back ima schedule an appointment with the genius bar, see what they say hopefully i get out of there at the most, 150 poorer.

anything above that (and rather easy to fix, on the the MagSafe board for example) iill be soing it myself. maybe ill post a thread about it here

Delays... :(

If you don't mind, post the results. :)

yep, will do

any way i can charge the battery for now, so its not completly useless

so for anyone following this, im gonen to the genius bar tomarrow to have it looked at. hopefully they fix it for under 200!!!

So it's gona take 3 to 5 days to repair. My genius was nice, he helped me out as we can say, well. They didn't determine anything but what I already knew, it wasn't charging. They determined that it was either the DC in board or the logic board. If it gets to them and they determine that there's water damage there gona void my warrenty no surprise but if it's over 200 to fix Ima sell the parts to get $ for a new one. I already have 1000 in credit for a prize I got. I just need to make enough off the parts to get a new one, hopefully a 15 inch ??? :)

got it back today, an 8 day repair, but i got a new logic board and dc-in board FOR FREE!!!!!!!!!!
