Hey! I want to be able to power on my Mac Pro manually and power it off manually externally, so it can be turned off most of the time I'm not using it.

Are there any good programs I can look into, which can do this for me? Does it support Wake-On-LAN to such a degree, that I can simply put it to sleep and wake up?

To my knowledge, it would require an additional server (like a Raspberry Pi), if I wanted to send a signal to my Mac Pro to tell it to turn on (WOL).

Let me know how this can be achieved. Thanks :)

    • In System Preferences -> Sharing check Remote Login
    • Note down the ssh command
    • Provided you are on the same network, issue that ssh command in the terminal your other machine (e.g. Mac or RPi)
    • enter your password
    • you should be logged in now
    • to shut down your MacPro, type in 'sudo shutdown -h now', enter your password
    • done
