Hi everybody

Sorry for making so many different posts today but I've come into a few macs that I'm trying to get up and running.

One of them is a Power Mac G4 AGP, problem is when I turn it on and try to install tiger it flashes the folder/question mark and then after reading my tiger cd it freezes on the folder icon. Does anyone have any idea why and what I can do?

Thanks!

Yeah, doesn't do anything for some reason. Just took out some ram and left what I know works and now the display won't work, the bong still goes off though

Have you tried holding Option at boot to avoid it ever going to the Finder/? searching for boot device screen? As for the video problem, try a PMU reset and reseat the video card.

Turns out I had fitted it with pc133 ram and it will only boot with pc100. Switched it and so far so good. Thanks for the help

It's installing the os. The machine also sometimes wouldn't power the mouse/keyboard and the display wouldn't turn on every time. Pressed the reset buttons on the motherboard to finally get them working again. It's battling me every step of the way!

Sure sounds like this G4 needs an attitude adjustment. A quick poke of that reset button should fix it from throwing a tantrum.

Got it free and the previous owner stripped it bare, even took the 16mb screen card...but can't look a gift horse in the mouth. Traded some old apple monitors I was given also today for a Quicksilver 800mhz and will set that up later.

Is it a single 800 MHz or dual? What monitors did you trade?

Single 800, traded an old blue lcd Cinema Display I had with no power supply, some 90s beige box crts and a CRT Cinema Display. They took way too much room and got them all free except the lcd one

----------

Wonderful there were errors installing tiger, have to restart...

Is the hard drive and optical drive known to be good?

Q.U.I.C.K.S.I.L.V.E.R.………drool……………drool……

Wow... You really do have a special place for them if you drool over them.

Optical drive was with it when I picked it up so that I can't be sure. The hdd is mine and I have used it within the past month so I know it's ok.

Guess I can try changing it for another DVD player, have 3 extras I got just in case.

Your words of encouragement make me want to pull my QuickSilver out of the closet. It was my first Mac ever back in 2011.
LOL! They are awesome Macs. I know the MDDs, DAs, AGPs and PCIs can hold more RAM and that the thermal design on the QS is bad, but the design is just cool.

It's kind of like owning a Pontiac Fiero (look it up on Wikipedia). Super nice and awesome looking cars, but they had some limitations that most people didn't realize until they damaged the car or blew the engine. But if you know the car, the thing will hum and she looks beautiful!

Same with the QS.

No need to look up the Fiero. I really do enjoy looking at those cars and they are a bit like QuickSilvers indeed.

Just changed the cd drive to a dvd drive I picked up for cheap a little while ago. Install worked! This mac has fought me the whole way but is finally working properly.

Thanks for all your help. Also discovered I mixed up the model, it's actually the pci graphics model not agp
