Power Mac G4 HD Questions

I've had a MDD Dual 1.25 Ghz Power Mac G4 for 3 years now, and I was considering replacing the harddrive. Now, would a new HD (ATA/100) increase the performance of the machine? I would consider an SATA drive as well, but is the increase in speed noticeable? I mainly use my Mac for Photoshop work.
Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank You.
