I have a power mac with a 400MHz ppc processor that I bought used at a local college sale. it had everything but ram.

I put in four sticks of 128mb PC100 ram.

When I boot from hard drive (which after looking at via firewire, looks fine) the little twirling circle under the apple logo freezes.

When booting from install cd, the little twirling circle under the apple logo never stops.

I reset the PRAM and it doesn't do much except make the twirling circle stay for longer then freeze.

I also put a second hard drive in it as a slave, if that could cause a problem.

EDIT: this time after trying and trying and trying, the kernel panicked during cd boot
