Hi guys, good evening everyone, I received the workstation in question as a gift from a friend of mine, who had a graphic studio.
I was told it turns on but doesn't display on video for that
they used it as a network "server" to save their work!

So, being an old computer technician, I started tinkering and I noticed that actually when I turn on the G5 it emits the startup sound and everything seems to work, but without sending the input to the monitor.

The video card is an Nvidia 6600 on AGP slot. I tried to take it apart to check for burns but nothing, it looks good! I cleaned the connectors with an eraser but nothing.

The question I want to ask you is the following:

Can I install a video card in a PCI slot? If so, which one to choose for compatibility?

I hope I was clear to get some help.

thank you very much for your answers!

It seems like you are unfamiliar with Macs, and PowerPC Macs at that? Is that correct?

You can install a PCI video card, but not just any old PC card. You need one that works with Mac. You can use a PC to flash certain cards to Mac, but it's easier to just use ones created for Mac.

Radeon 9200 and 9600 spring to mind. You could also use a 9800, but that's AGP. The card you have in there now is a stock card for the G5. It might just be cheaper to find another one.

He has a GeForce 6600 which most likely means it's a PCIe G5.

The most common PCIe graphics cards for the dual-core G5s are the Nvidia 6600LE (128MB), 6600 (256MB), 7800 GT (256MB) and the Quadro FX5200 (512MB). There's also the ATI X1900 GT (256MB) but it's fairly hard to find compared to the Nvidia cards. Pretty much anything beyond the 6600LE and 6600 cards will be good choice. I upgraded to the 7800 from the 6600 a while back and it made an enormous difference in gaming. Technically you can put these cards in any of the PCIe slots but the fastest one is the 16x which is the lowest slot. Here some additional information on the Late 2005 PCIe Dual-Core PowerMac G5 models:

can you help me in finding a video card that can be adapted to my power mac? i am changing slot because i am not sure if it is the broken agp video card. I wanted to test with a pci to see if the motherboard was working. the initial startup boom feels!

The G5 in the picture above is an AGP based G5 for sure. For testing purposes you could use a PCI (not PCIe, just regular PCI). Such as a Radeon 9200 or something. Even a Rage 128 out of an old G3 should work.
As for other AGP cards, a Radeon 9800 Pro. a Geforce 5200 (both of those are AGP Pro, and native to the G5).

I have a Radeon 9650 that was pulled from a G5. Works fine. If you're interested...
