Hi all,

Apologies if this has been covered, but I can't quite find a clear answer.

Can the new Apple TV power on/off a non-cec TV?

I plugged it in and it learned the volume IR automatically without me having to do a thing.

Is there a way to teach it? It seems odd that it can send volume IR fine, but not be able to send power commands.

Thanks!

Mine can turn on / off my TV via IR (verified by covering up IR port). I wish there were some settings for learning remotes and TVs, since my TV actually supports CEC, but for whatever reason the Apple TV wants to use IR.

Did you have to do anything for it to learn that?

When I put it to sleep by holding down the 'TV' button, only the Apple TV goes to sleep but the TV stays on.

Thanks!

There are several settings under Settings-->Devices and Remotes.
