    I have MS office installed on my macbook. PP worked but now there is a problem and it will not open. Until I find and re install the disc is there a way to open the files with the MAC OS? thanks for the help and suggestions.

    You could grab the iWork trial and open the files with Keynote...

    Just get iWork, keynote is far superior to powerpoint anyway, and it can read and write .ppt files.

    Thanks for suggestions...here's the prob. the PP is attached to an email and I can't figure out how to get it from there to someplace that Neo Office can open.
    Sorry for being so duhhh but noobie to all of this. thanks again I'll keep trying.

    It doesn't work to double-click on the file?

    You can manually save all attachments to your Downloads folder by clicking the "Save" button in the message header (where from/to/subject and so forth show up).

    What version of PowerPoint do you have? What exactly happens when you try to open the file?

    Hi, Nad,
    thanks for the reply, sorry for delay in responding. I have Office for Mac 08 version. Now PP will not even open...just get error a continuing recycled "problem can't open" do you want to send error report?"

    I have loaded Neo Office now and it's really quite good. Is there a way to override PP in Office and just use NO? Or do I have to uninstall all of Mac version of MS Office?

    Below is part of the error message that gets sent to MS. Don't know much about any of this so appreciate you taking the time to advise or just direct me to a site/post that can explain how to resolve this issue.

    I'd need to see the whole error message to get an idea of what's happening. You can post it as an attachment to this thread, and I can take a look to see if I can figure out what's going on.

    Can you launch the other Office 2008 applications?

    Please make sure that you're completely up-to-date with your Office updates. As of today, we're currently at 12.1.5. If you can launch another Office app, the easiest way to download the current updates is to go to the Help menu and select "check for updates".

    Have you recently done anything to your Office installation, such as move the files, manually delete files, or run an application like Monolingual or Xslimmer?

    Your best bet to get this solved might be to call tech support. You get two free calls or emails to tech support with your legal retail purchase of Office. To get the right phone number or email address for tech support for your region, start off at Microsoft Support, then select "more solution centers", then "Office 2008 for Mac".

    Thanks for the error log. I'll be able to look at this in more depth when I'm back in the office, but at first glance, I'm wondering if you've got a font issue.

    Open up Font Book (it's in your Applications folder) and see if there are any duplicate or corrupted fonts in there. That's the first step in figuring out if any font issues exist.

    Okay, I dug a bit further into this, and PowerPoint is crashing as it's drawing the main window. This could be one of a few different issues:
    * your preferences got corrupted
    * you've damaged your Office installation somehow (such as by running an app like Monolingual or Xslimmer)
    * your permissions have been corrupted

    If you're certain that you haven't damaged your Office installation, my first step would be to check your permissions. Here's a support article from Apple with more details about troubleshooting permissions issues. If that doesn't work, then delete your PowerPoint preferences (they're in User/Library/Preferences, the filename is com.microsoft.Powerpoint.plist).
