I'v never seen any apple product fail from water. I remember my friend accidentally dropping her original iPhone in the dishwasher and not noticing and running it and it still worked after!. every pear of EarPods I've had has gone through a washing machine and all worked fine after.. and my AirPods get soaked in sweat at the gym or in rain all the time with no issues. Modern stuff like the watch and iPhone XS I don't even think twice about getting wet. they always work fine

anything with Beats on it deserves to be flushed down toilet
I'm not sure the last time you listened to a Beats Product. Since Apple put the custom chip in, they sound excellent. I've had the X, the Powerbeats 3 and now the PowerBeats Pro.

Give them a good faith shot if it's been awhile for you.

I had a period of sickness a few years ago. While being sick one day, my EarPods dropped in the toilet.. Had to be gotten out with a spoon. Had to be rinsed off. Dried them with a hair dryer, put them away for an hour. Turned them on. Fried. This is real progress. Insulate your sound drivers from dying when you sweat. I went through four different brands in that search a few years ago, and it was hard to find a pair that had it that didn't cost audiophile money. Most of the ones on the market died in two weeks for me.

So, it's not cheap but it lasts a long while. It's cheap per use. $5.00 set lasting a week is too expensive.
I've destroyed many a corded EarPods set of headphones with sweat. It's nice to not have to worry about it.

Despite not having a waterproof rating, I've run and biked through lots of sweat and rain with AirPods and never had an issue. I could only assume that these would be better.

Bike? AirPods didn’t fall off with all the sweat?

Well obviously you did something to your phone to "break" it as you say, since no smart phone will "break" simply if it is dipped in water. Once your phone was broken, it's no wonder that water went everywhere.

*This is also exactly why Apple doesn't warranty any phone against water damage, regardless of the water resistance rating. Apple has no idea what you did to your phone that exceeded, for example, the typical rating of "up to 30 minutes at at up to 1 meter," and they would be replacing phones that people went scuba diving with, dropped to the bottom of the ocean/lake, put in the washer, or as in this case, somehow dropped and cracked the screen before it went in the water.

Come on, of course "broken" meant "not functioning".

The phone was always kept in Apple's silicone case and I never dropped it. False advertising, and I'm probably the biggest Apple fanboy on the board.

I don't know if I'm more appalled with the usage of the toilet or the use of a random china phone as the timer. You know, instead of the brand this whole website revolves around.

There's a simple solution to this: CLOSE THE F*CKING COVER!!!
I mean, really? How damn lazy can you get when you can't even close the damn cover? People like this should be sterilized because they're likely to have their kid drown because they were too lazy to close the cover (and put a child lock on it).

Maybe it is just me, but I would have dropped them in a bucket of water instead of a real toilet.
The worst part about it is the video.

Did anyone watch the video? It’s horrid. He drops them in the toilet, dunks his bare hands into the foul water to retrieve them, proceeds to fumble them through his wet slimy fingers and drop them in a second time, again dunks his bare hand into the water to grab them and makes no hasty attempt to get his hands out and wash them. Instead he decides to get a shot of the PowerBeats resting calmly in his soaked hands while the shot of the toilet in the background reminds you of the tragedy that has just taken place. No sense of urgency at all, just seems like he is splashing around having loads of fun with his toilet and headphones. A real sinister few minutes.

Great video!

What are your thoughts on the Powerbeats pro for calls?

Having used other wireless headphones, I find that AirPods have amazing clarity on calls and doesn’t include a lot of background noise. Very different than my other wireless headphones that had a sensitive mic that picked up too much background noise. I think it’s the shape of the AirPods that gives it that advantage. How do you think they compare? Thanks for the video!!! :)

Any reason why these weren't tested while in use? If Im caught in the rain while running with them on , why would I turn them off and leave them in my ear? just put them away

Why would it matter? The water resistance still applies rather if the devices are turned on or off, as water resistance is merely a protective layer to stop moisture/water in any situation, The device doesn’t have to be turned on for water resistance to be active. The only caveat, is water resistance is _not_ a guarantee, it’s merely a rating.

For that money they must play themselves
surely at the factory in China they cost no more than $30

What companies do this? Cut off their nose to spite their face?

Well i dunno... I mean if journalists can sit on stories for month after month like New York Times did with failure to leak evidence of NSA documents in 2013, than Apple can do it

Unlikely, but can happen. Just one example.

Apple is often accused of this right after a new product is launched and sells out quickly (usually the iPhone). It lets people believe the iPhone is a "failure" and that it's not really selling well and Apple is creating an artificial shortage to create the illusion of popularity. Then Apple releases actual numbers which completely debunk the "artificial shortage" conspiracy.

The flip side of this is when the iPhone doesn't sell out and people claim the opposite (that nobody is buying the iPhone because there's still stock). As opposed to considering the most likely scenario - Apple improving manufacturing to handle the demand (Tim Cooks specialty).

Either way the iPhone is deemed a failure and not selling well.

I’ve owned the Powerbeats 2 and 3. Great while they last, though both stopped working after 1-2 years.

Mine stopped working pretty quickly and I’m convinced the mic cable and unit were the weak link, so I’m optimistic these ones won’t suffer the same fate.

I’ve been really surprised by how the AirPods have held up to being used every day, outside in all weathers while running (and sweating...). They’ve been absolutely bombproof and I’m assuming the Powerbeats Pro will be just as good.

Now, if only we could actually order a set in the UK...

Super interested in these! However, with everything slowly moving towards USB-C, Im surprised that they decided to use lightning for these... May hold on to my airpods until they switch over to USB-C or come out with a wireless charging case. Sort of tired of carrying around different cables and adapters when traveling.

Exactly. And beyond that, why not do the toilet test last? They claim it was the third of six different tests! I'd have made the toilet test #6 and tossed them after that rather than continue to test them.
Toilet test first, licking test last.
