Writing from experience:

I have both a 15" powerbook and 12" powerbook. I ended up buying the 15" incher as my first mack and loved the engineering and OSX. What a beautiful machine! The delima for me was that the 15" just was still on the big side as far as lugging it around on campus. I know in the scheme of things the design is much better then most laptops, but the width is really a factor, it will only fit in one of my bags and with the sleeve it just adds too much bulk. The 12" is brilliantly designed for students on the go and so powerful it has displaced my need to use my 15". As I result I am currently selling my 15" and going to pick up a 20" apple display to offset the screen difference when I am working at home. However I have noticed a certain sect of people that seem to take pride in carrying around a separate computer bag and working of their full sized machines...I just happen to not be one of those people. Decide what works for you!

Correct me if I'm wrong

I didn't have time to read the whole thread because I'm about to go out (to see HHGG) but I don't think that anyone pointed out the big deal-killer on the 12" iBook.

Besides only doing mirror-mode, not dual-display, it only outputs at 1024x768 which is only good for up to a 17" monitor. The 12" PowerBook outputs up to 2048x1536 which is high enough for almost any display. Plus the PowerBook is DVI vs. VGA.

If you plan on using a 24" Dell display you will need a PowerBook.

At least that's my experience, my iBook is only 800MHz so it's possible they've improved them since then but I haven't heard about it.

I bought a 15" PowerBook :)

Good luck

Can someone please promise me that powerbooks will be updated by September, if not June?! I want a new book for september, and I am perfectly willing to wait that long... but I will be dreadfully unhappy if mid september rolls around and I decide it is getting too late, so I purchase a PB, and they are updated a month later. I am accepting of the specs on the current machines, but I do not want to purchase a revision of it at the end of its cycle... and If I can wait till september, Ill take all the freebies/upgrades I can with the new rev.

Make me feel better!!!

Well, if Jaguar's release were to be any reference... I'd say that Tiger won't come preinstalled on the currently shipping PBs until about 5-6 weeks later. So there, it is already one incentive for you to wait till June.

I don't think an update would come by June though.. September is probably a good bet if you want a *new* machine.
