Hi guys,

I've been trying to improve cooling/noise on my DLSD.
The best I've been able to get is swaping the fans ( just the platic fins ) from a Macbook Pro.
Colling seems a bit better and then noise seems also more Macbook like.

Do you guys have had any experiences / attempts at this.

Best regards,
voidRunner

Someone will suggest repasting the CPU, so I'll mention that.

The only other thing you can try is G4FanControl, but it's hit or miss if it works or not. That app lets you control the temps at which the fans come on. I've never had it work on any PowerBook I've owned, but others have.

I've had a good experience with G4FanControl. Apple's default fan curve allows the machine to get way too warm for my liking, especially if I have it on my lap.

I honestly wish I could make this work, but I've just never owned a Mac it will work on. Either the app quits out on me or it will load and everything inside the window is blank.

To be fair, the models I've tried it on are 17" PowerBooks, but it also didn't work on a 15" TiBook 400 either. I've got a 12" PB I could try again on, but it was never my own personal Mac. Maybe it will work on that model, IDK.

That's interesting. I've used it on several different iBook models, as well a couple 15" PB's.

Apparently I was wrong and never tried it on my 15".

@Raging Dufus suggests that it might be because of the processor.

G4FanControl does only work on the later Books. It should do fine on the DLSD (so it does on mine).
Steady state without fans can be achieved at max. of 65-70°C on heavy load (browsing, emulation).

Getting the book off the surface is mission critical (same for the early intels).
My favorites for that purpose: iLapStand (at home) and JustMobile Couch Surfers (on the go).
