It is possible it is simply the DC in board portion on the PowerBook that can be repaired or replaced... Glad you got a new one though.
If you want, we could help you get the other PowerBook going.
It's long gone now. Sold it for spares (and the price I got my 'new' PowerBook for is actually cheaper than what I sold my old one for spares!). I made a thread about a while back, it was likely the DC-in board originally, but then that triggered a domino effect and took out numerous other components. As I said was maybe down to a cheap power adapter, or some sort of a power surge.
