Hi,

My powerbook's (bought 2 years ago) original 30GB hard drive died yesterday
.. the OS can not recoginze the hard drive now 🙁 So, the HD must be died, right???

If it is, I am looking for a replacement, 30GB or larger. my question is:

Are the harddrive for PC notbook (ATA 100 5400 rpm) compatible with Powerbook? Is the firmware same as for PC and MAC?
If so, I will just come to Staples and pick up one regular ATA100 notebook drive and try to replace it by myself (is it difficult?).

Thanks!

Notbook? 😀

Yes, the Powerbook will take a 9.5mm thick, 2.5" ATA hard drive. PC, Mac, they're all the same. I like the Seagate Momentus series with the 5 year warranty.
