My DVD drive has been making weird noises for a while and now it's no longer recognized at all. Guessing I'll be needing a replacement. Does anyone know which ones are compatible? Also, is there a better option than looking for one on Ebay? It's for the 15 inch aluminum model.

PowerBook G4 needs a new DVD drive...

DVD drives are standard sized I believe, just look for tray or slot load, PATA (40pin connector).
If anybody still makes them new I can't imagine.
I wouldn't buy one with a rubber belt on it, they wear out with time but I would't know where you find that info.
So my suggestion is A new SATA DVD + a SATA controller board. You may find they only sell SATA BR/DVD combo.

Any Apple-branded drive made for any G4 will work, along with early MacBooks and probably early iMacs starting from the iMac G5.
You're looking for a slot-load drive with a slim-IDE connector. Can probably just search "apple superdrive" and ignore the USB and desktop results.
Unless you have local options, eBay is probably ideal, actually.
Make sure you don't accidentally buy a drive with a slim-SATA connector.
