    ok guys...

    Found an 1Ghz G4 12" PBG4, awesome machine.
The body is little beat up, has a loose f11 key and some bends and dents.
Also the seller states he can't get the hard drive working. He states it can boot from an boot image using firewire. Body infront of the superdrive is bent so he can't put in an dvd.

He is asking 150 euros for it.
He sent me some pictures and it looked better then id expected.

I'm thinking offering him 100 euros.

    What do you guys think?

I don't know if thats really a deal or not. If its that beat up, the superdrive isn't really usable and a hard drive thats baked, seems like its going to cost too much to get it usable. If you got a HD, its gonna cost a lot to get it put in, and doing it yourself is REALLY not easy. I'd offer 85 for it, since its in such bad shape and its only a 1GHz model.

Have to agree, it does seem quite battered if you can't even get a CD in it, so what else is wrong with it I wonder?

    You have a point there....

I was thinking to get it up and running by installing leopard on the powerbook in target disk mode using my G5. Obviously with a new hard drive of course.

Because it's already beaten up, I will probably remove the Superdrive and it'll be a perfect, small, machine for on the go were i don't have to look after so bad. (like my macbook)

I agree by offering 85 euros... (it sounds so cheap!!)

Yes! That's a great deal! Just make sure to try it out at his house first and try a hardware test.

Just fyi, its not that much lighter than your macbook (12" is 4.6 lbs), I think the whitebook is 5 lbs, but don't quote me on that.

I know that... It's just that I don't have to worry too much about it because it's already beat up...
The machine will be used in hazardous places....
Laboratories, Libraries  and High-humidity environments

    Most to process papers

I just don't feel safe to use my MacBook for those purposes.... (excluding libraries)

I say no. It's too old and more importantly too beat up. With that level of damage I'd be seriously worried about other problems that you're just not aware of yet. 85 euros is cheap, but IMO it's not worth the potential hassle of thing thing dying on you while you're using it for something important.

Ok, today I went to check out the PowerBook.

The guy who is selling, had some other apple gear (mbp), which looked pretty beat up. I figured he doesn't take good care of his stuff.
The Powerbook looked OK, just like on the pictures. but no battery included.
I already figured that, but the case was too bended to fit in a new one.
    That was the first bummer.

Second, he already boot it up when I came over... but when I shut the thing down and trying to reboot, it really wasn't going to boot again.

Third, it was possible to put in a DVD in the superdrive, but apparently it just didn't work.

So.... I did not buy it....

The only thing that was really working was the screen.
