So I just brought a PowerBook G4 back to life with a new SSD: See thread .. And I'm looking for some cool / useful software recommendations compatible to OSX 10.4 (Tiger)

I just tried installing MS Office 2008 but it required OS X 10.4.9 and higher so I'm going to try MS Office 2004 instead.

Huh?

Did you mean try MS Office 2004?

PS. Why would you not update to OS X 10.4.11 if you're running Tiger?

Corrected.

Well I was under the assumption that it wouldn't run on this PowerBook. Maybe I should just run the OS updater without worries

Just download the combo updater and run it. Once that's done then just run through all the Software Updates (from the Apple menu in the top left) until there are no more updates.

Remember to repair permissions after each update.

Just updated to 10.4.11 and installed MS Office 2008. I seriously forgot the reason I installed 10.4 instead of 10.5, I wonder..

Does Leopard (OS X 10.5) also run on the PowerPC version of this PowerBook?
Leopard will run on any G4 and G5 Mac that has a minimum of 867mhz CPU and 512mb RAM.

Technically it's possible to put Leopard on a G4 with less specs, but that's the general requirement.

Mac OS X 10.5.8 was the last version to support PowerPC Macs. Which PowerBook do you have? As long as it's any other version than the earlier Titanium models that have the Rage 128 GPU it'll run leopard with minimal effort on your part. 1GB of ram at least and it runs like a dream. I even have it running on a 500Mhz G4 upgraded B&W PowerMac G3, it runs very well.
