I have added the updates that I know of :) Tiger is the oldest version that Software Update still works on so it is easier to update a new installation of it and Apple's own applications for it than it is with the older versions, at least for as long as they keep that running...

There are also a whole load of Java updates that have to be applied incrementally (latest one is Java 5 Release 9), the links should all be in the catalogue file that Software Update uses: https://swscan.apple.com/content/catalogs/index.sucatalog

@647156: Thanks for adding the updates. Yeah, Sotware Update is still working for now but it's nice to have the direct links just to be safe in case the plug is pulled on them.

I've added a list of compatible Intel hardware (it's early/old enough to be welcomed here) as well as more applications including Intel-only hypervisors.

Added Adium, FileZilla, Transmission, VLC, CocoviewX, FastIcns, ToyViewer, OpenOffice.org, coconutBattery.

Of what, Tiger itself? it would be against the rules to post any downloads of non-free software here (updaters and free software are fine), but it can be found on well-known "abandonware" websites or you can pick up genuine copies from eBay cheaply these days.

Added :
-VirtueDesktop, add spaces on your Tiger. There are other softs doing that, like Desktop Manager, but VirtueDesktop is nice in that it allows to have different wallpapers on each spaces , (+ many other options of course).
There was only one other spaces manager that could do that on Tiger, that was You Control Desktop, unfortunately the editor disappeared without leaving the possibility to activate online...
- Tor Browser 3.5.4 PPC.
- SoundJamMP 2.5.2 !! best music player ever :p Available on the MacGarden of course.
- Blender 2.56, last version Tiger.
- Gimp 2.6.11, requires X11.

@galgot , you made me curious! I downloaded SoundJam and discovered it was so amazing in its time that Apple bought it and built iTunes on it. Nice facts... It has a lot of functions and it is a very well done music player but, I am looking for the one that uses less CPU ever. I tried VLC and Vox, and both use 6-7% of CPU against the 16 of SoundJam. Are there even more optimized players somewhere?

COG on my taste better for digital audio, nice and simple, like Foobar2000 user interface. Playing most of lossless file formats, and application can send musical information directly to DACs. This is the mostly more audiophilled app for PPC mac.

You could try CMus :
http://ppcluddite.blogspot.com/2013/11/ladies-and-gentlemen-your-itunes-killer.html
Available via macports or TigerBrew. It's through the Terminal, no GUI, tho. Can listen to streams too.
I now use it more than iTunes for sure...

But I do still use SoundJamMP on my PPCs for listening radio, plus you can use WinAmp skins with it, only needs to be converted with the "skin converter" included with SoundJamMP.

I'd really like to try it, but I am too lazy to install xcode and then Macports :p

Added SMTube and TenFourTube.

Facebook/Twitter have been ignored because Facebook and Twitter suck and need to die. So does YouTube, but it unfortunately happens to be a crucial component of modern life, thus I'll let it slide.

Good job everybody.

Added iCalamus, iStudio Publisher, Q, Spark, WriteRoom, XPostFacto.

Update: I've just confirmed that Pixelmator 1.5.0 runs on Tiger and have added it to the list.

I have messed with Tiger on Intel quite a bit, so I can say this. I have a 2008 iMac with Radeon 2400 XT graphics, and it runs Tiger. However it does not detect any audio hardware, so there is no sound (if you click the volume icon it just disappears) and networking is broken over both Ethernet and Wi-Fi. If there is a fix for either I'd love to know but I'd assume there is none due to them being unsupported. Another important thing to note is I used Mac OS X Tiger Server 10.4.7 Universal to install. This version can be installed on any Intel Macs that can run Tiger, meaning you can run it without having the included discs. This is good because those discs are rare, but of course there are differences between the regular OS X and the Server versions.

@retta283: Thanks for the info. Do you get accelerated graphics with the 2400 XT? And would you like to add these caveats to the first post?

I ran tiger on iMac 2008 too, all equipment works with it pretty fine, even graphics acceleration with 2400 XT, except sound. Instead of sound card I used a cheap China DAC "Matrix rip", which works fine even with Jaguar. Tiger fully updated with all critical security updates.

Strange as when I tried to install any updates for Tiger on my 2008 iMac it would make the OS unbootable

I added the info. Also included the fact that when I shut it down from the Apple menu it brings up a message saying I need to restart the computer, which requires me to hold the power button. If I then reboot into another version of OS X it will tell me the OS crashed. In addition when I tried to install 10.4.8 or higher updates, when the computer restarted it would boot loop, making it unusable.
