My wife's PowerBook no longer remembers the date and time when powered down for a lengthy period of time. I presume the PB has some kind of internal lithium (watch) battery that holds this information? Is this user-servicable or do I need to take it in to a repair center to fix?

It's not defined as Apple as a user servicable part. You might well be able to do it but I'd say take it to a repair centre.
