My powerbook has had trouble starting up. When I load it up to the disc utility , it recognizes that there is a hard drive connected to my computer, it just doesn't recognize the actual VOLUME on that hard drive. (As in, recognizes the physical harddrive, but not "Macintosh HD").

This is, of course, a huge problem. Any advice?

Have you tried using DiskWarrior? I've found it to be the best thing in situations like this. Of course, if that doesn't work then it's a really serious problem - I'd recommend taking it straight to Apple, especially if it's under warranty...
