Hello everyone. I would just like to say hello to everyone as this is my first post on this forum. I just purchased my first piece of Apple computing hardware today, a 12" 1.5ghz powerbook for school. I just had a few questions about my memory options:

Am I limited to a specific size/amount of RAM?

I will be using the computer for Microsoft Office applications, games, and the rather rare instance of video editing. How much RAM do you reccomend?

Can you point me in the direction of a solid internet retailer?

Thank you for your help!
p.s. sorry if this has been covered already!

Welcome

Your are going to hear this over and over .... the more ram the better

For MS Office the basic 512mbs would be good but with Games and Video Editing i say at least an extra 512mbs(for a total of 1Gb)

Good Luck

Welcome,
I'd recommend getting as much RAM as you can afford now, probably a 1GB chip if it's within your budgets is a safe bet. Not to say that another 512MB won't do the job, but the more always better.
As for an online retailer, I'd recommend http://www.crucial.com
I've shopped from them before for RAM for both my PCs and my iMac and never had any problems. They ship fast (2nd day) and free.
Enjoy your new PB :)

Welcome to MacRumors

1) With the Powerbook 12" you are limited to PC2700 DDR SODIMMs, there is 256 soldered on the motherboard and only one RAM socket. You can install one SODIMM of up to 1 Gb, giving you a total of 1.25 Gb

2) Get the 1 Gb SODIMM

3) Your best bet is to deal with a seller who tests and guarantees compatibility with your model Mac, offers a lifetime warranty, and a no cost return if it doesn't work (hint: discounters, PC retailers and online generic sellers will usually only offer one of the three)

If you are in the USA, there are a number of sellers recommended by MR readers - Crucial.com, OWC (MacSales), 18004memory (Coast to Coast). I recommend Data Memory Systems for their Mac knowledge, 18 years in business, good service and honest dealing.

4) Yes, it has been covered before... many times... Please become familiar with the Search function of the Forum, and invest a bit of time with it before posting. For next time...

Thanks
Trevor
