And there it is another Mac user was rescued from Windows' retarded (delayed as Longhorn) people, telling him to get a PC lunch box(laptop). The End.

Dells are notoriously bad for battery life. Even their skinny 700m gets about only about 2.5 hours according to CNET - CNET 700m review and CNET isn't renowned for being critical of Dells.

For anyone buying a dell they should ask for a 53w 6-cell battery which will give around 4 hrs. They'll do this upgrade from the standard battery for free. Also, haggle and they'll knock off around 10% of the total laptop cost.

However, you should still buy a chick-magnet totty-pulling burd-nipping pb !

Are you crazy??.. talking about dell??... my friend bought a dell last year... everything but the processor and the harddrive got burnt out... dell wont last long... + always having to worry when u need to take it to the hospital... man.. never ever go near a dell...
stick to a pb... dont even think twice... :D

I used to recommend Dell...now if I have to recommend a PC, its IBM (as far as laptops go). My friends family has 4 of them...they've gone through several AC adapters, the hinges are all loose...not to mention they are about 2" thick. And this is all just hardware issues.

One of my friends always told me that Macs "suck". Then after he came over and I showed him my iMac and OS X, he never said that again. Don't listen to anybody that says "Macs suck", because chances are that they've never used one.

FYI: IBM no longer sells PCs, including laptops. They sold that to Lenovo.

Yeap, you can see that on the new ThinPad commercials. Right at the end when they show the laptop, over the keyboar there is a line "Product by Lenovo."
Most people wont evem notice it though, or the fact that there is no IBM logo at the end of a commercial.

Any way, get a PowerBook. You have been owner of a Mac for quite some time so you know what you know that you are getting a quality hardware and probably the best OS ever.

Oh, I think it's better than chances. Everyone that has told me anything like that, 100% of them haven't touched one since 1996 or earlier.

Yes Dells do suck. I do have to agree with some of the previous comments, because IBM/Lenovo do make the best PC laptops of anyone. A friend of mine swears on his Thinkpads. He refuses to use anything else. Once, he had an unfortunate incident in which his Thinkpad got crushed inside his luggage at the airport, so he decided to try a Dell laptop. He used it for about three months, and decided that he couldn't take it any more. It was a total piece of crap. He got rid of that, bought another Thinkpad, and never looked back. However, Powerbooks are at least one level above Thinkpads.

It's nice to see everyone around here thinks more or less the same :) I wonder if I'd get the same sort of replies at a Dell forum ;) :p

On the Inspiron 9300, I was quite shocked at the price of RAM (from Dell). I'm sure an additional 512Mb stick cost well over £100 (since looking yesterday, they're now doing special offers on RAM on the XPS and 9300). I thought RAM from the Apple store was expensive (£99 for a 512Mb stick) - but this was quite a way over £100!

And the only time my friends have ever seen my mac was when I was playing a game with them on it - trouble is it was a PC game so I had Virtual PC running....

Just get a powerbook and let your friends be jealous when they look at their Dulls.

The choice should be an easy one ... just let the buyer beware because it's no sweat off our backs. If someone wants to be the "proud" owner of a spanking brand new Dull Perspiration, so be it. :)

That made me burst out laughing! :D

Seeing as you've got almost twice as much weight to lug around, you probably would sweat more ;)

Personally I'm not a fan of Dell. So I wouldn't buy one. I have a friend who swears by them though. His HD crashed they had a new one overnighted to him. He has never had problems with it either besides that HD crash. My professors' Dell laptop has been messing up for the last month, all hardware related. In the process of being fixed. They are on with support, I'll give them that. I just like HP more myself. But if you can get ahold of those "Save $750 on a $1500+ laptop" deal, or any of the many other Dell deals they become worth it. I've got another friend did the "Save $750" plus a 20-25% discount, plus another discount giving him a nice machine for cheap, was well worth the money he spent. As far as Windows goes, my desktop runs XP and I have no problems with it at all, never have. I don't mind running it. Had it running 3.5 weeks till yesterday when the power got knocked out. Runs 24/7 with no problems at all. Never slowed down a bit. Haven't run Windows updates in so long. I can scan for virii and spyware and come out clean everyday.

If I were looking to save money, I would definately get a Windows based laptop. I have no trouble running Windows. My reason for a Powerbook was I received a large sum of money and decided to go for it.

I'm more of a neutral kinda guy on the Windows vs Mac thing. I don't lean to one side or the other. It doesn't bother me in the least what I run. The only thing keeping me from running either is the money.
