My brother just got a Powerbook 15” SD with the extra VRAM and HD space. Being the super drive model, he also has the imfamous backlit keyboard. Overall, he loves the laptop, totally happy.

However, playing around with all the features of his computer and OSX, he accidentally deleted the actions of the Function Keys (F-Keys). Before messing it up the keys did this by default:

F1: Reduce screen brightness
F2: Increase scrren brightness
F3: Mute
F4: Decrease volume
F5: Increase volume
F6: Num Lock
F7: Switch screen
F8: Turn off backlit keyboard
F9:Reduce brightness of backlit keyboard
F10: Increase brightness of backlit keyboard
F11: Expose function
F12: Expose function

When he pushes the buttons now it makes the beep sound, system alert I think.

How can he restore or fix the problem?

Thank in advance

Apple menu->System Preferences->Keyboard and Mouse

there's a toggle

Use the F1-F12 keys for custom actions.

i have mine unchecked and my buttons do as you say, if it's checked you may have to press FN+F# to get it do what you want.
