I think he meant backlighting in terms of the LCD, the keyboard backlighting takes up practically no energy at all.

Well since i do have a spare crt, im leaning toward the 12"...is it worth getting with a superdrive? I supsect I will use iDvD sometime down the line.

I agree, go with the 15"...its the perfect size for a laptop
