I haven't really been too direct in saying what this thread is about, thus is why im making it...

Anyway, as some of you may or may not know, I got myself a 1.5GHz PowerBook G4 12in (using it to type this because of its heavenly keyboard :D) and a 1GHz PowerBook G4 15in (it came today, so it's still charging up at time of writing), both from my good friend @gavinstubbs09. I also might have another PowerBook in the pipeline...

The 12in I got about 2 weeks ago, and when I first got it, it was having some issues turning on, which I resolved by opening it up and unplugging the HDD and ODD cables from the board, and plugged them back in. I reassembled it and it turned on fine to my surprise. So far, its been working flawlessly. I've installed @Altemose and @eyoungren's T4F customizations and it has done miracles on my browsing experience. Here are some pictures of About This Mac, System Profiler, and of the laptop itself:

My 15in finally came today after USPS holding it for an extra day and their website not updating, thus I had no clue if it had actually shipped or not. However, it arrived safe and sound from across the country. As of writing, I'm letting it charge up all the way before i try using it because I learned with my 12in to wait for it to be all charged up. From the looks of it on the outside, it arrived fine, with no new dents, cracks, etc. The computer is flawless accept for a corner being bent in near the charging port, because the original owner of it's son tripped on the cord and pulled the laptop with it, thus damaging the metal. The charging port is fine, luckily. Also, along with my 15in, Gavin included a surprise with it. That surprise turned out to be all the original manuals that came with the 12in, as well as receipts of service that was done to it by the original owner, both of which are awesome to have!

Here are some pictures of the 15in. I will add system profiler and About This Mac pictures later since I'm waiting to turn it on.

(10 max, so the remaining angle will be in a second post below)

Finally, as i mentioned in my opening paragraph, I may have another PowerBook in the pipeline. In the next week or two, @bunnspecial, @MacCubed, and I are all ordering G4 Cubes from a seller on Reddit (I'll do a write up of that when the time comes ;) ). Because I got two more cubes along with my own sold for him, he said that he will be tossing in a beater 17in PowerBook G4 for me. According to him, it is a 1GHz machine with 512MB RAM, SuperDrive, and an 80GB HDD running Leopard. He also said it has seen better days, being that its missing the battery and RAM cover and the left hinge is a bit warped. However, the screen is really bright. So I figured I wouldn't turn down a free 17in PowerBook regardless of it's condition. I'm not sure if that deal is still on, so I asked him and will update if he says yes or no. But if it definitely is mine, I'll be fixing it up with whatever it needs to be a gentle giant again!

Then all I would need is a TiBook, and I would have one PowerBook G4 of every class; Ti, Alu12, Alu15, and Alu17 :D.

Just a little note here, they are all eyoungren's customizations. All I did was make a simple file and post it for download. @eyoungren did all of the work!
Idk if this was targeted at me or not, but I'm aware of this. I was simply thanking Erik for finding and listing them in a thread, and thanking you for making the complete file downloadable.

Man, super jealous of that 12". I gotta get my case in order and a new KBD.

Made another troubleshooting thread, because now my 15 in has issues as well...

Happy to say I'm writing this from my 15in! I got it running late yesterday after discovering that it was a RAM related issue. I took out the faulty one and swapped in some good working RAM. It was running Panther which was a bit difficult to work with, so I upgraded to 10.5 Leopard. I'm currently having some issues installing 10.5.8, so I'm going to have to do a direct download from Apple's website as opposed to Software Update. So as promised, here are some Screenshots;

The battery seems to be having some issues reporting how much charge it has, because it gets stuck permanently at 10:00Hrs, even though its nowhere even close to that. Also, does anyone know of any tweaks that allow the keyboard backlight to stay on regardless of the lighting condition (I have no clue where the sensor even is :p).

Finally, I'm planning to do an overhaul of both my 12in and 15in by decking them out with mSATA 128GB SDDs (along with converters), and eventually max out the RAM. My first step, however, is to upgrade the HDDs, that way i have more space on both (this PB only has a 20GB HDD that sounds like it is 20 years old). Also, because I have yet to do anything with my poor Mac Mini G4, I'll be taking the large 60GB HDD from the 12in and putting it into the Mini so it finally will be 100% working and it will have a HDD.

That's all for now, but very happy to finally have this PB up and running, and so far, I love it!

The setting for the backlight would be in System Preferences>Displays.

But the easier way is the keyboard. Press the F8 key to toggle the backlight on or off. Use the F9 and F10 keys to adjust the brightness.

The light sensors are just by the speakers. Place your hands over the grilles on either side of the keyboard and try to block as many pinholes as possible. That usually gets the keyboard backlight going.

It only gives me the option to have it turn on in low light conditions. I guess the feature that allowed it be on regardless of the light condition wasn't added until a later OS X version... It's not a big deal, but i just like the look of the keyboard being lit up.
