So I posted a thread because I was haveing problems flashing an ATI 4890 for my early Mac Pro.
I finally got the card running but even with the more expensive mother board power cables things heat up a lot. I realize that the cared itself can run a bit hot but the main cord for the power supply (ie what I plug into my UPS to run the desktop) was getting REALLY hot. I uninstalled the video card.
Someone suggested sending the card back. OK I can probablly do that once I figure out how to "unflash" it, but what are the chances that the card is not the problem?
The cable may not be the original as I am not the first owner of this machine. Could the cord itself be not up to snuff? How heavy duty should it be? It has numbers on it which I assume tell one how mych it can handle.
Advice would be appreciated. I'm getting very frustrated at the low quality video. I recently got a lovely new 27" HD monitor but have to dial down the resolution to 1600x900 to play any games.
