Is it yours? lol. Anyway, if you are interested I will definetly buy one/pay for shipping if you give it away or whatever. I just want one :) 16mb of vid ram is way better than the 6mb I have in it now.
Yeah, I can't sell it since it's university salvage. I just need to get an anti-static bag to ship it. The video card worked. TRUE plug and play with the controlled Mac peripherals. I actually enjoy it a lot. No need to search and pray for drivers.

If you have any extra ADB Keyboards/Mice and an antistatic bag I'd trade you the card for it.

I actually don't have any extras :-( Does that mean I can't have the card, or can I have it anyway if I pay shipping?

You can have it if you pay shipping. Just let me get everything ready.

Awesome, I'll be looking forward to a PM or reply to this telling me how much for shipping etc. Thanks a bunch!

You are right about the 8500 being a great machine. I bought mine new in 1985 and it is still running. It's had a few upgrades, RAM, Hard drive, Processor (G3-300)

Anyway, to your questions;
1. drag them to the trash.
2. you can never have too much RAM.
3. Close, but not impossible. You have to unplug all of the cables and drop the mother board. It's a pain better left to a professional...
You may still be able to find the instructions on Apples support site.

Good luck

Man you must have been rich to have PowerPC technology in 1985 ;)

Drive a DeLorean by any chance?

One more question...

http://www.sonnettech.com/product/allegro_usb2.html

Will the Sonnet Allegro USB PCI card work on my PowerMac 8500? I'd REALLY like some USB ports. Even if they are for mice and keyboards. Does Mac OS 8.6 support optical mice?

I had USB working in os 8.6 and then I updated to 9.2.2 and it won't work :-( I had to download some drivers from version tracker for it. I don't remember what ones exactly, but if you do a search for USB in os 8/9 you should find them. Trust me, it's priceless using a new apple usb keyboard on an 8.6 box :)

**edit**
And yeah, it should work fine with that card. I used a Belkin card that I grabbed at RadioShack for $25 or so.

Well if I can get a Belkin card locally I'd buy that. I can buy Sonnet products off of Amazon. :D

OS 8.6 does actually work with USB quite nicely. Win98 didn't, but under 8.6 I never had an issue with my optical mouse nor printer. Drivers may be required for some things though. I haven't tested by USB flash drive, but it should work.

My flash drive worked great actually, and my digital camera when I plugged it in. 8.6 rocks actually. I like 9.2.2 better, except for the fact that it seems almost impossible to get USB to work unless it was a computer with built in usb

lol I know this thread is over 15 years old, but I just got one of these wonderful machines again for my birthday a few days ago, and man oh man it's so damn cool to have. Super nostalgic! I had one of these new when I was younger in the 90s/early 2000s when it was my dad's main workhorse machine (it had 64 MB of RAM and a 1GB HDD... holy crap) and then he got a TiBook in 2001... We got rid of the 8500 shortly thereafter... I wish we hadn't have...

OMG I remember that app! I used to use it SO MUCH on my iBook G3 when on early versions of Mac OS X, and maybe on Classic MacOS too? It was my go-to for listening and I think also ripping CDs... I liked its UI more than iTunes'.

-- Mac OS X
I'm actually awaiting some upgrades for my 8500 (it's a 150Mhz 604 vs the 120 MHz I grew up with/around) to bring it up to 1 GB RAM, a Vimage VPower G3/500 MHz CPU, an ATI Radeon 7000 (or thereabouts) 64 MB VRAM GPU (gonna flash it with a Mac compatible ROM), and a USB 2.0 PCI card among other things. I plan on running Mac OS X 10.4 at least, but how would I get 10.2 or 10.3 running? Is it possible?

-- Upgrading RAM
Oooooh man yeah that was indeed tedious... I had a hard time reassembling it for other reasons, but holy crap this machine's case design is HORRIBLE. I'm super tempted to see if there are any custom cases for the 8500's logic board so I can rebuild it to have proper RAM access etc, but at the same time the charm would be gone... That's part of the reason why I got it/wanted it.

Again, sorry for the bump, but the 8500 shall live on FOREVER haha.

I'd leave it alone. While not super simple it's not that bad for the few times you may need to upgrade it. Unless you plan on upgrading the RAM on a regular basis I'd leave it original.

Well I have the RAM I want to try and use here now but I won't open her up until the rest of my stuff arrives so I can do all the upgrades at once, and then leave it maxed out... given the RAM I got is gonna work... I think I got the right kind?

I think that's a wise idea. As for the RAM being the correct type I cannot say as I don't know what you've got.
