Hi, i have a powermac g3 beige, and it has no USB ports. I know that OS X supports USB cards. I have one from a PC lying around. Will it work in a mac?

Thanks

USB port cards can work in a Mac, they will need drivers for OS9 (I have one - Sonnet - in a beige G3).

Don't know about OSX compatibility on unspecified PC-centric cards. You can try...

It should work. I bought a random "windows pci/usb" card and got it to work in 8.6, then it wouldn't work when I went to 9.2.2 and now it works awesome in 10.2.8 OS X lets you use almost anything as far as USB is concerned. At least jaguar does 🙂

If you USB Card is made by BElkin, more than likely is sholud wrk, but check your system profiler to see if it shows up.

If not, you may want to go ahaead and get a dual USB/F/W card anyway.

the PC card didn't work, so i bought a USB/Firewire combo card from sonnet. this should work without drivers right?

Was the PCI card one you bought or pulled out of a random PC? Anyway, yeah, a sonnet card should work great. Course, I'm assuming you are running 10.2.8

thanks 4 your reply. yes, the first card was a random PC card. The new sonnet card I bought worked in my PM 6500, but i am not sure if it would work with my g3. The g3 has OS 10.1 🙁

I've had incredible luck using a couple of no-name cards on my beige 7600 running 10.2
