I've been debating a Mac OS X server to replace my linux server that I use. It has 4x120GB IBM IDE drives in it. Since Apple has the Dual 1.25GHz on close out I was debating getting one with an 80GB drive, and then taking my 4x120GB IBM IDE drives out of my linux box, software RAID5 them and offer them up on my network.

Can I just move my drives over? It appears the 1.25GHz supports 4 IDE drives. I just remember from the old days that you needed special software and stuff to 'bless' the drive when I used to do repair work on Macs in the mid 90s.

Thanks.

Tom

I moved a 40GB IDE hard drive from my old PC to a friends iMac G3 without any chanting, blessing or witchcraft whatsoever. Hope this helps. Dunno about the Xserves, but I think they must use off-the-shelf commodities to keep the price down.
