so some of you might know about my super upgraded Sawtooth (i talk about it in the post with flashing PCI SATA cards) so i had finished upgrading it to the max (bar an SSD but i dont have that much cash) if ur wondering about its specs it has a 1.4Ghz Giga desighns G4 CPU 7455 :D a PCI sata card and a ATI radoin 9800 non pro (it over clocks to pro speeds tho :D) and 2GB of ram so while i was very happy with it heh i was looking on ebay cose i was bord heh :p and i found a dual 1.42Ghz MDD that had a bad PSU for £20 ($45) i couldent resist :p so it arives i un pack it and drag it up to my desk to mess with so i go over checking it it has 1.5GB of ram an air port card a 6 port 2 internel usb card and an ATI radioin 9000 pro (had some fun confusing windows frends with the ADC conector :p ) so i go checking if it realy is a bad PSU etc i conferm it is so i got to remove it to preper for a new one and what do u know when removing it i round out the damn allen screw  so much drilling later i get the screw out then i deside to plug it back in and it boots sort of i got a bong but thats it nothing on the display try 2 graphics cards nothing and then the PSU quits again :p iv orderd an AC bell PSU is that the loud or quit one? and iv nicked the 9800 from the sawtooth and slung it in the MDD once i get it working its going to be one awsome power mac :D for £20 i think its a very good find tell me what u think of it heh :apple:

The 1.4Ghz CPU in the Sawtooth isn't a maximum CPU upgrade for that machine. It's about in the middle. A maximum would be the dual 1.8Ghz 7448 or the single 2.0Ghz 7448.

@intell i am awer of the hi clocked CPUs but iv nerver seen eny for sale and i red some were that the 7455s are better then 7448s? also my sawtooth has a uni 3 rev asic so i dont think i can do dual cpus unless theres a way round it? BTW in the MDD i hear u can put in a G5 blue tooth card for blue tooth 2.0 what would i need to look for exactly? (like a part num would be nice)

A 7448 has a better pipeline and effective speed than a 7455. A 1Ghz 7448 will out perform a 1Ghz 7455. If your MDD is a FireWire 800 model, you can put in a Bluetooth board from a 2007 iMac to get Bluetooth 2.x. It's part number 922-8233. You won't want a G5's Bluetooth board. All compatable ones are only Bluetooth 1.x.

The Acbell power supply is the loud one which earned the MDD the nickname 'Windtunnel', but it is possible to replace the internal fans with quieter ones. You can also quieten them down a lot by ensuring that they're not full of dust. You got the MDD for a good price, depending on how much you spent on the replacement PSU.

thanks for the replyes guys

@intel i have a 2006 core duo imac witch diead i got the blue tooth bord from that and it phiscly fits in the power mac but will it work in the OS?

@harrymatic thanks for the awnser witch PSUs are more relible tho the samsungs or the ac bells?

thanks intel :) sadly the only blue tooth device i own is a magic track pad wich isent seported in 10.5.8 (as in no multi tuch) is there a way to enable it?

thanks for the replys the dud PSU in the MDD is a samsung i poped it open couldent see eny thing rong but who knows (i assume that uv got a bad PSU when the power light would only stay on if u kept ur finger on the power butten even then nothing kicked into actoin?)

Yup, that's the classic symptom. It is possible to repair these power supplies, but it's only something you should attempt if you know exactly what you're doing. You can probably sell the defective one though, I know there are people who rebuild them and sell them on.

thanks for conferming it was a bad PSU (the replacment PSU i got cost £45) im not going to sell the bad PSU but ill prolly cut the cables off as they might come in handy for making an ATX to MDD adapter  now i wonder if i can get multi touch working on my magic track pad with 10.5.8? :apple:

@altemose i know that it works as a simple pointing device (iv used it in 10.4.11 tiger on the imac when i was messing with older OSs) but is there a way or hack to enable multi touch? (like 2 finger scrole etc)

Not that I know of. Software like iScroll 2 only use a specific kext which is not applicable for Bluetooth devices.

hmmm well thanks for the info :) i wonder if its possble to hack the driver for the magic mouse to work with the magic track pad? (i think the magic mouse is seported in 10.5.8) the new PSU should arive tomro :D i hope it works heh :)

Not without a decent programming knowledge I would think.

I get the impression you are really going to push this machine by looking at the icons in your Dock.

heh thanks for the replyes guys. If u call having 15ish tabs open in a web browser open pushing it? then yeah  :p im still working out some small qwerks like in webkit theres no optoin for it to open ur tabs from ur last sesoin when u open webkit? I have a qustoin the later eMacs and G4 iMacs could take 2GB of ram in the form of 2 1GB sticks right? so why cant some one put 4 1GB sticks in an MDD for 4GB of ram?

MDDs can't take 4GB because the memory controller in them wasn't designed with 1GB sticks in mind.

so what would happen if u did? would it not boot or would it just see half of the stick? (i could of sawrn i saw YT vid of some ones power mac with somthing like 1.25GB of ram in the form of a 1Gig stick and a 256meg stick?)
