Hi, I am having problems with a G4 mirror door that keeps coming up with a question mark. I have tried replacing the battery, and doing multiple pram resets. It will still start up to external drives, if I hold down the option key.

I have tried booting from an external and setting the startup disk. This seems to work after it restarts, but if the computer is off for more than two minutes, it won't start up again (even if it stays plugged in). It will just go back to the question mark folder at boot.

Any ideas?

Thanks

No one is answering because this is a very simple, 'noob" or newbie question...

A flashing question mark at start up means your hard drive is dead.

Get a new one and make sure it is NEW. Hard drives die over time because they have moving parts. Most have at least three year warranties.
