Hey guys, I am looking for a G5 Macintosh. I have a friend that will be able to sell me a Powermac G5 1.6ghz, 1.2gb memory, 80gb hd, airport, geforce 5200, and superdrive. I will probably be able to get it for $445 or hopefully around $420. Is that a good price or am I spending too much on "old technology?" I mainly want to run Leopard on it, use it as a download/itunes computer, store videos, etc. My Macbook Pro will still be my main machine. But the main question, is $445 too much? Thanks everyone!!
So, you all think its a good price? Anything you think I should look at when I go there today? Thanks, Paul
I would just check the condition of the box its self. It thats ok, then you shouldn't really have anything else to worry about.
Hi, So, I am only able to get it for $445. Is that a good deal or should I check elsewhere? Thanks, Paul
look up that model on eBay, and see what the going rate is for it. that alone should give you a good idea. or mac2sell.com My G5 has a going rate of about $700-750 on ebay right now.
My reaction (via stream of conscious thought): Good price! Hmm.... G5; that's obsolete technology that has no future, as the next version of the OS is supposed to be Intel only. ... My G5 PowerMac is a FINE machine and I see it lasting for another good 3-5 years, easy... $445? hmm... could drop another HD in there and add some more ram, if necessary; you'll want more HD space for storing videos. Are you getting a monitor with that? I don't know...$445... I think that is an OK price; I'd offer $350 and see how far down I could get it. I don't think I would sell my G5 for $450, but I do think I would buy one for around $400.
Well I got the Mac for $420! I have several questions: 1) Do you guys know where I can get replacement 2nd drive bay screws for the computer? 2) Where can I get a replacement airport/bluetooth external antenna for this computer? I also got a mint condition Apple Studio Display 21" for $20!
That right there is a GREAT deal! Color me jealous. To answer your question, I would try Macsales.com (800-275-4576).
You are talking about the little round black screws, right? Are they not screwed into the plastic divider between the optical drive bay and the hard drive bay? I first thought I would have to buy some more until I noticed that they were stuck there to the side. If they aren't there, then I have no idea where you would buy some.
Yup those are the screws I am looking for. Unfortunately, they are not on that plastic divider thing that you were talking about. The seller even assured me that he didn't swap or upgrade this PM G5's hard drive. Anyone else know of a source to get these screws? Thanks, Paul
