Well let me start by saying that I don't know what a silent PowerMac G5 should sound like so I just might be oversensitive to the noise.

It wouldn't go to sleep , instead the fans ramped up full speed after a minute or 2 but I've deducted this issue being the LSI SCSI card I had installed.

Removed this card and now it goes to sleep and is dead silent whilst in sleep.

But when it's running , it seems that the PSU fans produce the most noise, I can stand a computer running but it really starts to get annoying in a silent room after 30 minutes, the machine is doing nothing but still there is the audible PSU fan noise. (not the chirping)

I've been trying to boot ASD 2.5.8 but it starts Loading , fans ramping up to full speed and then in the bottom right corner I get an OpenFirmware prompt with "Invalid memory address" and can only boot to HDD or do a shutdown.

I also removed all 12 GB of RAM to down to 2 pairs ( 4 GB in total ) but still ASD keeps crashing.

I've reset the SMU by pressing the little button inside next to the RAM and did a PRAM reset.

Any other options or am I just imagining the machine being too loud ?

To eliminate the issue of a not working DVD , I booted ASD via Firewire from my iBook to the G5 2.3 Ghz but same issues, " invalid memory address" .

I put back my PowerMac G5, 2.0 Ghz Dual-core on my desk and it boots the ASD DVD without any issues.

You need ASD 2.6.3 for the 2005 PowerMac G5.
