Hey friends! I have a pmac g5 with dual 2.7ghz and haven't booted it in a few months. I just tried booting it a number of times and I get the startup chime but that's it.

Naturally, this computer has the dreaded LCS... :/

Any ideas where to begin troubleshooting here?

Thanks!

I hate to ask but have you gone through the obligatory procedure of zapping the PRAM by holding down CMD, Option with P and R after the chime has sounded?

Try the steps listed here as well.

How old is the onboard battery? Might be worth replacing it because they can also cause problems if they've expired.

Thanks! I've done the PRAM reset to no avail but the more I think about it, the more I think I should try a different keyboard as the keyboard currently hooked up to it is going through a KVM so it's likely that the PRAM reset may not have worked.

Onboard battery...hmm...no idea ;) I'll replace it. That's good advice.

Thanks for the link as well, I have a start point, which is what I was hoping the community would provide. Kudos to you kind sir.

You're welcome. We're a fairly nice bunch - let us know how you get on and don't be afraid to ask for more help if you need it. :)

You're a gentleman and a scholar! Removing the battery and resetting the PRAM got me back in business.

I forgot how awesome this computer is. Dual 2.7ghz, 8gb RAM, X850 GPU, with a MOTU PCI card...she's a screamer :)

I was terrified that the LCS may have caused damage and that's why things weren't working but so far so good. Guess it's just a matter of time...

I don't think you should have to qualify this as it's been my experience that the little things are often overlooked. I've done it myself too many times so having someone remind me is always welcome.

You can even drop in SAS controller in it :D.(SAS LSI Logic sas3080x). In most casesthey have FCode ROM & bootable, at least with Leopard.
Ha! There’s an idea :p I haven’t ever played with SAS at all so this could be interesting.

What other PCI cards would be cool in one of these, since we’re on the topic? ;)
