Hi,

I need to replace the logic board (and the CPUs) of my Powermac G5 dual 1.8 PCI-X 2003 with a logic board from a Powermac G5 dual 2.3 PCI-X.
Are all compatible the connectors of my case?
Can i keep my old PSU from dual 1.8GHz or i need to replace also the PSU? (i think mine is a 600 watt model)
Thank you very much

A couple of years ago, I replaced the motherboard of a dual 1.8 PCI (non X) with the motherboard (and CPUs) of a dual 2.3 PCI-X without any problem. All the mounting holes and connectors are at them same place.

I think I replaced the power supply too, so I can’t guarantee they are compatible. My guess would be that they are : while the dual 1.8 has a 600w PSU and the dual 2.3 has a 450w PSU, those have the same dimensions and connectors.

Today i only removed all components from each Powermac G5 and i observed that the old CPU from 2003 has 4 phillips screw while the 2005 G5 has 6 hex screw

I’m sorry. I wrongly assumed that both duals 1.8 (PCI and PCI-X) where of the same generation.

They are both Pci-X. The position of the mounting holes on both motherboards are the same. But the holes on the 2005 cpus are bigger, because the hex screws remain in place after the cpu is removed.
Here are 2 photos of the logic boards:
2003 and early 2005

Are the holes in the case the same size? Will you be able to install your dual 2.3 motherboard in the 1.8 case using the dual 2.3 mounting screws?

Hi, yes the holes in the case are the same size.
Today i was able to finish the job using 2.3Ghz mounting screws (need Exagonal key 2,5mm).
Then i turn on the Powermac g5 and i was happy to see that it boots perfectly.
I replaced the power supply, the logic board and the cpu.
