When attempting to save an existing powerpoint presentation to the server (local saves work just fine), the save stalls and just never completes. I can "save as" just fine - but to just use command s to save or file-save, it just completely craps out.

I've updated all software and this still occurs.
We've tried on several computers - one with an existing install/user account
and a completely new one with a fresh install/updates and brand new user account. This only happens with powerpoint - no other application has this problem.
Has anyone ever heard of this? Our IT company says "oh - that's just how macs are" which is an unacceptable answer to me.

Macbook Pro 15.4" with Retina Display
Macbook Air
Microsoft Office: mac 2011 with latest updates (Version 14.3.2 (130206)
OS X 10.8.3 (12D78)

Plenty of disk space available on the server. Don't have full server configuration - however, since this _only_ happens in powerpoint, I'm not sure its relevant anyway.

Any suggestions would be helpful.
Thanks!
