PowerPoint Slides Question

Hi I'm relatively new to Mac and all my professors put up our lecture slides on the internet, but they are all ppt flies and I can't open them up. I have a new MacBook Pro and It says it's not in the right format? Is there anything I can do to be able to open these slides up?
