Should be able to beat the PCIe gen 1 x4 limit of Quad G5 Mac with a PCIe bridge like the one used in the Netstor NA255A. It should allow up to PCIe gen 1 x16 speed.

I don't have an AHCI NVMe to test that. Does Linux for Quad G5 Mac have NVMe driver? There was a NVMe driver made for Mac but it wasn't open source and was made for Sierra or later. The NVMe website has documentation and sample code so anyone could recreate a driver for Mac OS X.

The Netsor NA255A can connect to non-PCIe Macs using a PCI to PCIe bridge, but the best such bridge is limited to PCIe gen 1 x4 and usually only the PCIe gen 1 x1 bridges can be found and those are usually limited to 32 bit 33MHz. Review the "PCI Adapters" and "PCI Speeds" sections at

I booted into Mac OS X 10.4.11 and did some OpenMark benchmarks (see attached). A Quad G5 has score 9331 for 1920x1080 while the B&W G4 has a score of 7372 and the Radeon 9200 is 1179.
I'm assuming you are using the StarTech 64bit PCI-X to PCI-E bridge?

For me, 10.4.11 flashed R580+ [Radeon X1950 XT], 66MHz mode in the PCI to PCI-E Bridge PowerMac G5 Dual 2.0GHz: Score 11751 @1920x1080.

PCI-X 100MHz slot.

What CPU is in the B&W?

No, I have a Startech 32-bit PCI to PCIe bridge. The StarTech PCI-X to PCIe bridge is hard to get and expensive.
My Blue & White G3 has a Sonnet 1GHz G4 (66 MHz bus speed instead of 100MHz).
