folks, I did not move to the X last year because of face id. I decided to upgrade this year, but to switch off face id and not use it.
I have some questions, though. How do you do authentication within apps? In case of touch id, it is simple, you put you finder and done. How I will need to do it if I will disable face id?

In safari for passwords at least, faceid just scans automatically after you choose to use your saved password.

I will say, faceID seems to be a LOT more reliable and easier to forget about than touchID. I wasn’t expecting to like it better, but I do. Now it doesn’t matter if my fingers are wet or if I’m not getting a good placement and then have to press my finger down repeatedly and wait for it to get a good position. I just swipe up and it’s unlocked. I was expecting it to be slow too after I’ve heard reviewers say it’s not as fast as touchID, but it’s been way faster than I was anticipating. Highly recommend.

Have fan scanning you face every time:)

Scanning my face is easier then typing in my passcode everytime.

After a year of using the X, I forget what FaceID is doing as it has been and still is so automatic. My MAX seems to be the same so far. It just works.

Yea it just works and works very well. Don’t know why people have so much trouble with it.

I am using face id now for one day and for me it really ‘just works’. I don’t even notice my phone is being protected.
Only thing I have to watch out for is to check the information in my banking app before pressing ok. After that face id immediately authorizes. With touch id I had an extra option to cancel by not touching the home button.

I think you may find turning off Face ID to be impractical over the long run. I haven't had my phone even 24 hours yet but I have to say Face ID is pretty damn impressive. Apps that use it unlock before I even realize what is going on. When unlocking the phone you don't even need to wait for it, just swipe up and it's already unlocked.

A quick look at my history will show I have been down on Face ID for as long as it's been out. I felt like it was inferior to Touch ID. But I was mostly wrong. It's quite good. It even unlocks in my car mount while I'm driving. There are a few situations where it is inferior to Touch ID. But for the most part I'm very satisfied. You should give it a try at least. You probably won't miss Touch ID was much as you think.

So I’ve been using the X for a year. Face ID is absolutely great. Far better than Touch ID in every way. Except for one. When your phone is on the table.

I wouldn’t turn off Face ID.

I do not want apple or anything to scan my face

Your face is scanned a million times a day with out your knowledge or consent. Face ID is the least of your worries.

Same reason I won't buy a new iPhone. I guess I'll be on old hardware for a long time.

Sorry Smoking Man. Come to my house if you want a 3D facial
scan. You convinced my parents in the 90's to get my fingerprints in case I was kidnapped,, so hiding from Touch ID is moot.

No scanning my face by Apple for sure, no linking my face to browsing data and on-line behavior.

I get the security concerns, but in Apple’s case they’ve done right by my data up till now. And man FaceID is so convenient and better than TouchID in almost every way.

Color me very impressed. So far transitioning to FaceID has been a very pleasant experience. It even recognized me with a cap and sunglasses on! As far as security Apple has stated that all the facial information is only held on the device. I'm very happy so far.
