Just to be safe, I also disabled AutoUpdate on my U2

I’m worried they will push the software update before my watch is delivered on the 28th so when I receive and connect my new watch to my phone if it will automatically check and download updates and push the software that way

That's not how updates work when you are setting up a new watch.

‘When I activated my Ultra 2 it forced me to update before anything else.
That does apply if you are restoring from a previous watch backup that was running a more recent version of the OS, but there's no requirement I'm aware of to do an update when setting up a new watch from scratch.

I'm 99% sure I had to when I got my Ultra. I didn't restore. Maybe there was an option somewhere not to but I don't recall seeing that.

I’ve definitely been required to do an update when pairing a new watch. If you decline the update it unpairs.

‘Not so. I tried to decline due to the amount of time and wanted to update later, overnight, the watch pairing aborted. Apple does not give you a choice!

I've noticed some owners saying that they are turning off automatic updates to make sure that Apple doesn't swap out or nerf the Blood Oxygen Monitor. Is this something to be worried about? Also, if they do change, do you just never install updates? Finally, will updating your phone allow changes in your watch? ty

I think the forced update was due to the phone being on a newer version. I’m pretty sure if my phone had not been updated the watch would not have needed to be updated. Nevertheless, I’m turning off automatic updates to be sure. I remember my disappointment when I bought the S4 for the heart rate monitor only to find out it wasn’t working and I would have to wait until Apple decided to release an update. I wouldn’t put it past Apple to screw with the software. Their lawyers can string these things out a long time.

If that’s the case I’m thinking about canceling my order this is the main reason I upgraded my series 5 which still works perfect maybe maybe I should just wait for the X. Why pay this much for a watch that apple changes this selling feature.

I agree I guess you would never be able to install updates, that sucks

There is a 14 day return window from Apple, so in the unlikely event that there is a new WatchOS version released in the next four business days (before your watch arrives) that disables or hobbles the spO2 sensor, you can simply return it. Most likely 10.2 will still be current, and you can just turn off automatic updates.

Best thing Apple can do is give us an upgrade plan to the Apple Watch Ultra 3 for Ultra 2 owner if Apple disables it.

I am betting that Apple come up with a solution, even if it means paying the people they "borrowed" the technology from!

In the end, it is always about $$$$$!
