Pre-iPhone 7 Head Phones Fault With Extensions

Using iPhone (Pre iPhone 7) headphones on my PC (Windows), all works just fine.
However, it will not work with any headphone extension. Have tried three different extension, all has a very faint volume. All the extensions work well with non-iPhone headphones. Why?
