Pre-Order iPhone finally arrived, how to make proceed?

So the X I preordered back in October finally arrived today. Of course I already bought an X on launch day, so I plan on giving the one that arrived today to my dad. Is it as simple as just popping out the SIM card on the new one and putting his in? Bc technically the one I ordered online is tied to my number. We’re both AT&T.
I just want to make sure that This won’t disrupt my service.

Just make sure you don't turn it on. Pop out the new card and then put your Dad's in. Then turn on and Activate.
