Actually there's no way of knowing 100%. I think the only ones they guarantee on launch day is orders placed on the 15th. It depends on demand after that.

Pretty sure they had a cutoff date for delivery on luanch day last year. Anybody else recall?

I'm going to preorder 2 iPhones on the 15th, switching from verizon. I hope everything goes smoothly, number porting and all. All this mixed hearsay is making me confused. I don't know what to believe.

Can I pre-order one online for my gf at full price without the 2yr contract? I mean just buying the phone as is since her contract is only 8months old with ATT. So will probably have to pay full price... I am eligible for an upgrade so I want to preorder mine and hers if I can on the 15th. Guess will have to wait and see.

8 months? You'd be surprised. Have you had her dial the *639# to check her status?

Everytime I see this thread, Gecko, I can't help think of "Miss Piggy iPhone Lady" who thought she was going to buy 16,000 bucks worth of iPhones on day 1. LOL

I guess we won't know until the 15th if the system has "stops" in place to prevent multiple purchases on a single account. I am sure there are.

So many more questions than answers.

yea. thats odd she should be able to upgrade.

When you're buying an iPhone online at the online Apple/AT&T store, you can make two purchases on one card as long as you don't check out until you've added another iPhone, which must use a separate AT&T (or any carrier) line in order to be eligible to be placed in your cart. It's the same as two people showing up in an Apple/AT&T store using one card (say, a father and son) to purchase 1 phone per person, one phone per line, except you're vouching for yourself using your number and relevant account information over the internet.

Okay if someone can help point out the perks of ordering at apple.com or going to the AT&T store. My wife and I are both eligible and she would be the one taking care of the ordering as I will be out of town.

What do you plan on doing, and why?

Thanks!!

I just spoke with an Apple Store representative on the online chat who told me it will be one per person... darn

There were no pre-orders for 3G. I don't know about 3GS because I skipped that one.
Yes, last year for pre-orders of the iPhone 3GS there was a cutoff point where you were informed that you would not get delivery on Launch day after a certain point. Two issues drove this, lead time to deliver and the initial inventory. So don't expect to pre-order on June 23 for a June 24 delivery....

Thanks Dave. And do you recall how quickly that day came last year? (I don't, I reserved...didn't pre-order.) Just trying to answer the "If I pre-order on the 16th will I get it on the 24th?" question.

You guys seriously haven't been able to figure this one out yet? :D

But will this work x4? I'm going to be starting a family plan with my parents and sister. Will we be able to order four iPhones with four different lines shipped to the same address on a single credit card? I kind of doubt it.

Also wondering.. we were planning on shipping 4 iPhones to our house, upgrading 4 existing lines on our plan, from Apple. Since they're all 4 phones that already exist, will this work?

I intend to pre-order two iPhones, for my wife and me, and port our #s from Verizon, and create new AT&T accounts.

It's curious that there's so much confusion over whether this can be done. I'm assuming that Apple and AT&T understand that some households have more than one person and need more than one cellphone :)

just got off the phone with apple again. I have called them like 10 times to hear from different people. They all said me and my girlfriend can both pre-order the iPhone 4 on the 15th for home delivery.

Someone in the Apple store chat told me that pre-orders were for individual lines only and that family plans could only be established in a retail store.

Great.

Sure, latest yeat pre-orders started on June 8, "Announce Day" and the last date to that pre-orders were accepted was June 16 for the June 19 "Launch Day" delivery. That's when they ran out of the initial inventory.

This year there are a couple of additional complications, there are more customers that are "Upgrade Eligible", more changes / features in the iPhone 4 and more customers that just want the iPhone now.
