In the whole debacle that is AT&T and their pricing practices I have a question. I Pre-ordered my iPhone 3GS yesterday through the Apple store (thanks in part to the kind person that posted the SMS deletion fix), but when I got my confirmation email I noticed something strange. I paid for the 199 iPhone, the $16 shipping charge (crossing my fingers that 1 day shipping means it will come early) and $55.41 in tax. Now where the heck are they getting that much tax from? I tried multiplying the $30 data plan by 12 and 24 months then adding the $199 for the phone and still it does not make sense. Where did they get this figure from?? Any Ideas??

I think there is some accounting thing where they have to charge tax based on the original price of the device. So tax on $599 or whatever.

Exactly...you pay tax on the full price...not the subsidized price.

Ahhh... Thank You!!!

That makes sense... Thank You!!

its funny how you paid for the shipping charge when i thought its free shipping and when i tried to do it it asked me to pay for activation charge and upgrade fee!!!
